GPT-4 Comes: The World Will Change?

By Cindy LiPublished: March 14, 2023

OpenAI released GPT-4 on 14 March. It is the latest and highly anticipated version of OpenAI’s large language model systems. These systems are designed to predict the next word in a sentence by analyzing vast amounts of text from the internet and using trial and error to identify patterns. The ChatGPT-4 launch sparks anticipation and discussion in the AI Industry since the beginning of 2023.

What’s New in GPT-4?

Multimodel capabilities

GPT-4 can respond to images. With its multimodal feature, it can create content that combines text, images, and audio, as well as accepting a prompt of text and images. However, image inputs are still in a research preview which are not publicly available. It includes many potential applications, such as creating more engaging and interactive online content, or assisting in the creation of multimedia presentations. GPT-4 is expected to perform better than its predecessor, GPT-3, in terms of Natural Language Processing (NLP).

Process up to 25,000 words

GPT-4 can accept longer text inputs than to its predecessors - taking in and generating up to 25,000 words, compared with 3,000 words for ChatGPT.

Improvement on safety

OpenAI spent six months on safety features for GPT-4, and had trained it on human feedback. They engaged over 50 experts from domains such as AI alignment risks, cybersecurity, biorisk, trust and safety, and international security to adversarially test the model.

Advanced reasoning skills

GPT-4 has more advanced reasoning skills than ChatGPT, said OpenAI. For example, it can accurately locate the available meeting times for three schedules.

GPT-4 vs GPT-3.5

Before the launch, there was a rumor noting that GPT-4 would have 100 Trillion parameters. This was broken by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in his previous speech.

According to the latest sources from OpenAI, it did not mention the parameters increase but they did point out significant improvements in GPT-4 from different perspectives, such as capabilities, bugs fixing, visual inputs, context length and consolidation of theoretical foundations. GPT-4 rebuilt their entire deep learning stack. They trained GPT-3.5 as a first “test run” of the system, fixed bugs and improved the theoretical foundations in GPT-4, which means that the model would be more stable. OpenAI says it is the first large model which can accurately predict its training performance ahead of time (In GPT-3.5, it has 4,096 tokens but now the number was increased to 8,192 in GPT-4. For more details, please find the API session from the press release). For the capabilities of GPT-4, Open AI contends that the distinction between GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 can be subtle. GPT-4 is more reliable, creative, and able to handle more nuanced instructions compared to GPT-3.5 as proved by benchmark evaluation, which GPT-4 would have a greater impact on functions like support, sales, content moderation and programming with their alignment strategy.

ChatGPT-4 - new era of AI technology? (Unprecedented Disruption of NLP)

Based on the above mentioned new features, it seems that GPT-4 has the potential to revolutionize the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and make it easier for people to communicate and work with machines. Despite its potential benefits, the ethical implications of GPT-4's capabilities are also a significant concern. The technology could perpetuate bias and discrimination if it is not trained on diverse and representative datasets. Therefore, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders must work together to develop guidelines and regulations to prevent the misuse of GPT-4 and other similar technologies.

ChatGPT-4 unveil the Next Level of Chatbot Wars

The competition between chatbot search engines has begun. Microsoft, Google, and China's Baidu have joined the war already. ChatGPT, Bard, and Wenxin Yiyan (文心一言), or "Ernie Bot" in English which Baidu says it will release the bot after completing internal testing this March.

Search engines are now able to provide more accurate and personalized results to their users with the growth of AI development. For example, Google has integrated AI into many of its products, including Google Lens, Google Maps, and other areas that consumers use.

Microsoft has also announced a new version of its Bing search engine and Edge browser, powered by an AI copilot and chat feature. Users can chat with Bing like ChatGPT, asking questions and receiving answers in natural language. AI is used as an assistive technology that allows people to complete smaller tasks more easily while bringing the technology development to the next level.

Overall, the launch of ChatGPT 4 is a significant milestone in the development of AI language processing and natural language generation.  With its advanced features, capabilities, and implications for human-AI interaction. ChatGPT-4 is poised to make a significant impact in the AI industry and beyond.
