“The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday” is a line Johnny always keeps in his mind as his life is full of challenges and with the next one being harder than the last! Johnny hasn't gotten into a comfort zone, he keeps fighting for future successes. He has remained firm to convictions and is a successful director in GreenTomato with over 20 years of experience.As a leader, Johnny understands that he has to equip his interpersonal skills in order to have GREAT management skills. He leads a diverse group of teammates, some born in the 70s to others born in the early 00s, regardless of age, Johnny never forces the others to obey his instructions. Instead, he puts himself in other peoples’ shoes and finds a way to cooperate with them.Johnny graduated from the Department of Information Systems at City University of Hong Kong. He is now working hard on assisting new generations to shape their future, including his own kids! Johnny enjoys wargaming in his spare time, as it is a great hobby for teamwork, and competes with himself at golf. Even though Johnny has reached GREAT success in his career, he will never lose his ambition to develop his personal and collaboration skills even further.

Johnny Wong is one of GreenTomato original Founders. He is currently focused on taking charge of the operation of our GT’s Guangzhou office, but he also leads ‘Hotmob’ businesses in both Hong Kong and Japan. Despite being a businessman with an entrepreneurial spirit and a broad vision of the world, he is detail-minded and mild mannered. Before we started our interview with him, he noticed that our interviewer had made changes on their makeup, and Johnny showed his appreciation directly. Johnny remarked that when he sits in different roles in his life’s journey, he bears different responsibilities, and then grows with different mindsets.Through this journey Johnny always has his companions. When GT was established, he had partners to work with him. Now, after the business has expanded, he has teammates from all different ages and backgrounds, and he continues to embrace those new generations. Johnny shared that he once watched a video with his teammates that got them roaring with laughter, but Johnny was so confused since he didn't understand it. Johnny said he doesn’t mind there are some punchlines that are just like mazes to him, as he accepts the inevitable cultural gap with the new generations. That’s why he needs fresh blood to join, so that he can keep his team up to date. In this VUCA world, we all cannot remain unchanged and insist on maintaining old methods. However, different people have different perspectives, and Johnny realizes and accepts this. For those celebrities or public images who are role models to the youth, Johnny thinks they have huge impacts on others, and thus they should always pay attention to their attitude and behaviour.Johnny totally understands that he also has his blind spot, and that he is not always right. Therefore, he always asks for consent from his partners or relevant stakeholders. Even though he has more resources and gained experience from the past, he still believes that different people with different ways of thinking will bring more opportunities, and ultimately possibilities to him and his team.Life affects life. It is not simply a one-way street from the senior to the junior, but new generations also bring innovative ideas to the management level. Johnny hopes that youths become confident about their potential, and learn to trust their own self, and be brave to take their first steps. It is fine to fail when they are young. He suggests using the first ten years of your career path to explore and try diversified fields, and then to focus on specific domains maybe after you hit 30. Johnny is not expecting his teammates to stay in his company for the rest of their lives, but he wishes they can maximize their experience before they leave. Working is not only related to selling a product or service, but it is lifelong learning of how to be a productive human being. We are all different, and all of us have different ways to live our own wonderful lives.
